Exquisite hand worked tamboured lace shawl / stole.  It has some beautiful butterflies with wonderful fillings fluttering between loose garlands of foliage.  A trail of flowers and foliage follows the border and the diamond shaped net has dots scattered all over.  Two weights of threads have been used to create depth to the tambour work, which has some distinctive flower shapes which look like Coggeshall work to me, and some interesting open-work areas.

Condition is very good with a few tiny breaks in the net.

19th century.

Quite a bright white colour with a few faint marks.

Measures approx. 268cm x 47cm (106" x 18 3/8").
