http://www.theflyingbedstead.com/The_Flyingbedstead/Mec39.html A very lovely handmade Mechlin bobbin lace edged handkerchief, made for a Marquess as there is a coronet embroidered above the 'BP' initials. Note: a British marquess is entitled to a coronet bearing eight strawberry leaves (three visible) and four silver balls (or pearls) around the rim (two visible). There are two sections of Mechlin lace; a frill at the edge and an insertion with a band of whitework in between. A very fine example, and with some research it may be possible to trace the original owner of this piece. In very good condition for its age; there are a few tiny breaks in the bobbin made net. Ivory in colour with some very faint age marks. Early 19th century. Measures approx. 40.5cm (16") square.
