Shawl or possibly a bonnet veil; it is made of a very fine, machine knitted net, and looks like silk to me. It is translucent, and at the borders there are 5 thin lacy stripes woven into the fabric and an unusual central panel of large holed mesh. Something of a rarity.
Condition is very good for its age; there are a few small snags and I can only see a couple of tiny holes.
Early to mid 19th century.
Black in colour.
Measures approx. 213cm x 73.5cm (84" x 29").
