A bobbin lace appliqué bonnet veil, which could be used as a short wedding veil. This is an unusual piece; the motifs look more like Bucks in design with their honeycomb fillings; but these are applied pieces and not continuous lace. Since there are a few leadworks it is more likely to be Honiton. The piece has been beautifully edged on three sides, and has a meandering floral border with small florets sprigged all over the machine made net. There is a channel at the top with a silk ribbon insitu for gathering.
Condition is very good - there are a couple of minute breaks in the net.
Mid to late 19th century.
Ivory in colour with a few very faint age spots.
Measures approx. 107cm x 51cm (42" x 20") at its widest points.
Price - £85.00
