A lovely and large handmade Carrickmacross lawn-on-net qpplique and needle lace handkerchief with a design of meandering foliage and cartouches filled with fine needle made fillings. Unusually, the piece has been edged with a machine made picot edging (instead of a hand-worked looped edge) and there are no 'pops' but it is still Carrickmacross!  It has a fine linen centre, which is a replacement.

In very good condition for its age; there are no holes in the lawn, but there are a few tiny breaks in the machine made net.  Due to this lovely condition, I doubt that this piece has ever been used.

Ivory in colour with some age marks - I have not laundered this piece.

Late 19th century.
