Fine white linen baby bonnet ornately embroidered with Ayrshire whitework lace with a trailing floral design worked in satin stitch, eyelets and fine needlelace 'flowering' filling stitches. There are six rows of fine tapes to gather it to fit around the front and one at the back. The roundel at the back is beautifully hand-embroidered with flowers and trailing foliage in the centre and has a dentate edging with buttonhole stitch.

It would be perfect to match with an antique Christening gown, and is suitable for a collection.

Condition is very good. There are a few tiny holes in the linen along the brim.  The embroidered whitework sections are in very good condition.

Mid 19th century.

White in colour.

Measures approx. 29cm (11 1/2") from side to side over head and 22.5cm (9") from side to side around back of neck.
